NONAMEY

“I’m inspired by streets and sidewalks because there’s always art. There’s a specific kind of beauty in torn posters, discarded machines, trash piles, tagged doorways, and parking signs. They all tell a story. Humans leave their mark on everything; these are the things that keep me curious. With recycled and found materials, I set out to capture that which inspires me most. I want to utilize what has been left behind and continue their narrative. Building something anew.”

- Nonamey

Nonamey (he/him) is a trans, Two-Spirit Indigenous artist and designer from the Ojibwe Nation, Bad River Tribe and Lac du Flambeau Tribe. Based in Portland, Oregon, his multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, fashion, video, and installation. He is the co-founder of the artist collective Dosshaus (active 2011-2019). His work bridges sculpture, couture, and reclamation, crafting pieces that are equal parts resistance and ceremony. Nonamey’s practice is rooted in anti-colonial aesthetics, the survival of trans and Native bodies through beauty, memory, and storytelling.

His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with notable showcases including the Lucca Biennale, Native Fashion Week, CONTEXT Miami, CONTEXT New York, The Other Art Fair, and the LA Art Show. In May 2025, he debuted his first fashion collection, Threaded Lineage, at Native Fashion Week.

Nonamey’s practice is an invitation to reimagine what we carry, what we discard, and what we choose to reclaim.
